Victory in Run fest at Coates, charming win at Cowley

Coates post 229, NCCC chase it down. All round good batting, Dan 49, and lots of contributions plus 46 extras help NCCC to target with an over to spare. Well done chaps.

Sunday. Just a charming friendly game at the beautiful Cowley ground. We post 170ish, they make 120ish. excellent bowling from Mikey Parker. Commiserations to Charlie Walker – first game back and a broken thumb. I love cricket like this.

Poulton score a good win over us, beat Coates with last ball six

Saturday league table toppers showed why they were above us by scoring 225 – Higginson family getting 100 and 50 for father and son. On a positive side they bought a jug! We only made 117, suffering from scoreboard pressure and rather throwing our wickets away. Notable exception, Simon Pow who scored a fifty and provided great amusement.

Sunday – Friendly T20 with Coates with interesting rules! We took about 15 Coates wickets while they made 124, we ended up needing 5 to win off the last ball and Bob Lamble hit Dave Leith for six! Great fun. Many thanks to all who played, we had players from NCCC, Coates, Poulton and Ciren playing. Brilliant.

Two good wins.

First league win of the season in a good game at Fairford. NCCC make 173 for 8 in 40 overs and than bowl out Fairford for 120. Sounds comfortable but wasn’t. Excellent rear guard action from Charlie L, Olly W and Chris T after mid order collapse. Good catch from Josh, terrible bowling and three wickets from Ollie, tight from other bowlers. We squeezed Fairford out. Good stuff. Sunday.. just a fab 11 am start T20 at Bibury. surely the most beautiful ground in the world. Victory to us in the last over, then pub then home…Heaven.

How are we getting on? not too bad

Hi all. We’ve had a couple of close losses in our opening two league games. however if we continue to score just over 180 we will win games. A couple of catches taken and victories will follow. Fantastic that so many people want to play. Thank you. Special mention to Captain Stu for a league hat trick and 5 wickets, plus a 50 for James Buse and John Wells. I played in a comprehensive win over Aldsworth today. 3 good catches by Dan Cave, everybody bowled, good innings from James Walker and Dave Jones (Retd Hurt!) and a big six from Bob.

See you all soon…. Steve

2015 Season off to a great start

Two weekends of friendlies now completed. Some good performances, some comedy and great to catch up with old friends. League starts next Saturday, friendly on bank holiday Monday. Summer really getting started now

Runners up in the Barnsley Bowl.

We defended our unlikely but magnificent 2013 tournament win gallantly. Victories in the round robin stages over South Cerney and Barnsley saw us take on South Hill in the final (having all ready lost to them in the heats). In truth we didn’t score enough runs and South Hill won relatively easily. Fantastic batting bowling, fielding and especially catching by the 15 man squad. Beautiful weather, lovely day, well done all. It would have been rude to win two years in a row.

A Good victory in our final league game Vs Charlton

Powerful batting from Dan(70*ish), Tim (35), Josh, Simon and Chris saw us set a target of 204. Slow start from Charlton under accurate bowling from Dave and Archie. Charlton then started hitting out powerfully with two batsmen making half centuries before wickets began tumbling and eventually their innings ran out of time on 165ish. I really like Charlton, its players and ground. This was a great game and was followed by fabulous beer, Sausage and burgers. What a lovely day – if only all league cricket was like this.

We think we have now finished second in the division and will be promoted – Excellent!

A Friendly loss to Fairford

Fairford 191, NCCC 141 all out going for the total. looked like an excellent friendly game from the boundary.

Damn and Blast Lechlade again!

Lechlade called 7.30pm Friday night to say they couldn’t get a side and would have to cancel. Offered to play just a friendly, we’d give them 2 players and play 9 a side. They declined. Bugger.

Fab game at Bibury

Really good game at Bibury. Both sides were on top at various stages of the game. Cautious batting start by NCCC followed by middle order acceleration saw us set 198 for 6 target. A par score or maybe just above. Bibury batsmen really went for it, trying to get above the rate at 20 overs as dark skies surrounded us. Rain came, reduced target and overs, Bibury kept coming and coming. On the cusp of victory their two hard hitting batsmen were removed and then quickly the rest of the team. NCCC winners by 16. Squeaky bum time. Well done to Captain Stewart and to Gareth for his all round performance. Two more league games to go …..
