Vs Birdlip

Another game where we came second.

Birdlip batting first were around 250 at the end of there 50 overs. Good bowling from everyone kept it reasonably competitive.

Unfortunatly despite another great batting performance from Rimon (98) and brian (21). we were never really close enough in our chase. Eventually we got up to 188 all out.

Vs Oaksey

Bowled first, Oaksey batting powerfully to make 250ish. Wickets for Charlie and Alex curtesy of catches from Dad and Jonesy.

Never really scoring fast enough making 116 in our overs. Well done to Al and Charlie for getting us past the 100 mark.

Hot day though!

Vs St Stephens CENTURY

Congratulations to Rimon on a century in a losing chase. Fantastic knock.

St Stephens 250+, NCCC 170ish

Vs South Cerney WIN!!

Low scoring thriller with victory going to us, the Mighty North. Captain Tim lost the toss and we were put in. Soggy pitch, runs difficult to get. lost 2 early wickets of Mark and Steve, slow recovery from Andrew, Stuart R and Nigel. At halfway we’d only scored about 40. Enter Tim with a gritty and increasingly fluent 55, ably supported by Charlie L (18) Ultimately their 60 run partnership swung the match in our favour, we just didn’t know it at the time. We were all out for 125 in the 40th over.

South started slowly as well. Tight from Al, tight from Charlie L. At halfway scores were about the same. Wheeler was removed, leaving just Jason Stephens looking dangerous and likely to win the game. Twice dropped but eventually strangled into giving up his wicket (Well caught by Dave on the boundary). Dave and Nigel moped up the tail, leaving SC about 36 runs short.

Fantastic team effort. Much beer drunk afterwards.

Vs Bibury – Abandoned

Match started on time but under heavy skies. Tidy and frugal opening spells from Charlie Lamble and Al Andrews. Charlie had a catch dropped off one of the best balls of the day and a catch taken off one of the worst balls! He doesn’t care though. Excellent spell from Dave Jones including the most polite (but succesfull) appeal I’ve heard… “Excuse me, how was that?” in his soft welsh voice. After 22 overs, and at least 2 rain stops, Bibury were 60ish for 3.

It then started raining hard. We came off. Bibury gave a good impression of a team not wanting to carry on. It rained some more, we had tea and I think the correct decision to halt the game was taken. It will be interesting to see if any games were completed this week.

Lovely tea Andrew, thanks

Regards

Steve

Vs Northleach League Away WIN

A brilliant all-round performance from a strong North Cerney saw us claim our second league win of the season. After heavy rain reduced the contest to a 30 over a side game, Tim Crook got things off to a good start with a rare toss win. He elected to field in overcast conditions. This, twinned with a damp track, gave the inexperienced new ball bowling attack of Charlie Lamble and Mike Parker something to work with. Pressure created from tight and accurate bowling told in the 5th over when Lamble had Northleach’s young opener caught in the covers by Crook. A change in bowling brought Dave Jones in to the attack. His accurate spin producing 3-29 from his 10 overs. A special mention goes to Charlie Courtney for catching his second top-class catch in two weeks. Al Andrews also picked up two wickets from his spell in the middle overs; he also ran out one of the Northleach batsmen. However, Northleach scored some quick runs at the end of the innings to finish on a modest 134 for 7, Cerney picking up a useful 3 bowling points. The second innings got under way with regular opener Steve Lamble and the “exciting” Dave Jones. A lively bowling attack was swatted for 2 fours by Jones before top edging a pull that he intended to go in the stream past the leg side boundry. Steve Lamble, joined by Andrew Saunders, continued to pile on the runs in typically elegant fashion, and he finished 68 not out. Saunders played well for his 28 not out and together with Lamble finished the innings with 4 overs to spare. The moment of the game was, however, with out a doubt Stuart Langford falling head over heels and nearly ending up in the stream that was inconveniently placed just behind the boundry rope. A good performance from all resulted in a well- deserved victory.

Vs Badminton Away

Called off for rain at 12:00, lovely sunny afternoon. Shame but not our call. Sunday game called off as well so no cricket to report. Test match was interesting. Sri Lanka (80 odd all out) batting coach obviously cut his teeth with North Cerney. Never mind Cirencester firsts were also all out for 80 odd on Saturday.

See you all soon.

Vs Duntisbourne – WIN !!

First league win of the year, first win of the year!
Great all round team performance. NCCC batted first making 172 for 8 in 4 overs. Captain Tim led the way with jug avoiding 46 with Andrew S (27), Steve L (26), Planty and Stu L all chipping in. Couple of selfless run outs right at the death and lo and behold we’d batted out our overs and posted a score the bowlers had a chance with.

Lovely Tea from Anne Banks – Many thanks

Tight opening spell from Dave and Al using up valuable overs and starting to make the run rate creep up. Mike Parker produced a great little spell. Great to see Nigel bowling again and Andrew’s flight and guile confuses batsmen. Wickets fell at regular intevals aided by good catching. In all I think we caught 5 and dropped 0. Excellent ones from Tim and Stu(x2). Once we’d manged to remove Toby Harris and Dan Robinson the game tilted our way. Holding our nerves and our catches we bowled out Duntisbourne for about 150 in about 37 overs (I never have the score book when I write these!) For exact scores look at the league link.

Al finished with 4 wickets, Dave with 3, Mike Parker 1 wkt and I’m guessing Andrew and Nigel got 1 each as well.

Well done to all- Bowlers, Batsmen and fielders!

Steve

Vs Coates

Oh dear…… Terrible. NCCC all out for 62. Coates 62 for 0. Then we had tea and went to the pub.

Surely it will be better next week? Sorry Tim.

Many thanks to Jane and Sam for a lovely tea.
